Intel set to discontinue some 11th Gen Core processors

Intel has started to discontinue the first few 11th Gen Core “Tiger Lake” processors. The process began on April 3rd, 2023, and will run until January 26th, 2024, when Intel will ship the last batch of these CPUs to customers.

As noted by Tom's Hardware, Intel's notice only includes nine models. Of these nine processors, five are laptop CPUs: Core i5-11260H, Core i5-11400H, Core i7-11800H, Core i9-11900H, and Core i7-11600H. The remaining four, the Core i9-11900KB, Core i7-11700B, Core i5-11500B and Core i3-11100B, are desktop processors.

The discontinuance program started on April 3rd, but the company will accept orders until June 30th. The last shipment is expected to occur on January 26th, 2024, so we should still see devices powered by these chips on sale next year.

It's worth noting that the discontinuance won't axe all Tiger Lake chips manufactured by Intel. Overall, the focus seems to be on the 45W TDP chips, as the 12th and 13th Gen Core series offer better alternatives for this TDP range. Moreover, Intel will still keep producing the Tiger Lake chips with IPUs like the Core i7-11390H and the Core i5-11320H.

KitGuru says: With the 12th and 13th Gen widely available in the desktop and mobile spaces, customers will most likely prefer the newer CPUs, as they offer better performance for the same price. As such, discontinuing the older processors should be the right thing to do.
