CD Projekt Red confirms lay-offs at Project Sirius studio

Last week, CD Projekt announced that it has “a new framework” in place for its Witcher spin-off game, Project Sirius. The game was primarily in development at The Molasses Flood, but unfortunately, it looks like recent changes to the game's development plan have led to layoffs.

In total, 29 developers have been let go from The Molasses Flood this week, just days after the announcement that Project Sirius development is winding up again. A few of those developers have announced their need for new employment on Twitter.

Later, CD Projekt confirmed to PCGamer that the layoffs included 21 employees at The Molasses Flood's US studio and 8 members of the team at the Poland studio. CD Projekt says the lay-offs are a direct result of changes made to the project.

Project Sirius is still in early development and was recently rebooted. Few official details about the game are known publicly, but the game is expected to be a co-op focused spin-off set in The Witcher universe.

KitGuru Says: It is always unfortunate to see layoffs and in this case, it does seem that a sizable chunk of The Molasses Flood team is now in need of new employment. Eventually, we'd expect to see The Molasses Flood hiring again as the project begins to ramp up development once again.
