Stardew Valley 1.6 Update officially announced

Stardew Valley has been nothing if not a massive labour of love, with primary developer ConcernedApe continually updating the game with massive features, additions and changes over the past 7 years or so. Despite them having announced their next game (Haunted Chocolatier) quite a while ago now, work on Stardew Valley is continuing, with update 1.6 being officially announced.

Taking to Twitter, Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe officially announced the next major update for the farming sim, saying “There is going to be a Stardew 1.6 update. It's mostly changes for modders (which will make it easier & more powerful to mod). But there is also new game content, albeit much less than 1.5. I'm taking a break from Haunted Chocolatier to work on this at the moment. Then back to HC.”

Adding more powerful modding tools is a major win for the game – which already has a rather active modding community. In terms of the aforementioned new game content, ConcernedApe has remained rather silent on the matter, though in response to one fan they did confirm that this update will bring with it more dialogue for the characters – a welcome addition indeed.

Though update 1.6 will offer less content than 1.5, the prior update was absolutely huge, adding a whole new region to the world; 10 new enemies; almost a dozen new farm features; new clothing; more food options; new quest items; new weapons, fish and furniture; new hairstyles; and many quality of life and balance changes.

All that said, despite being a smaller update than 1.5, the improved modding tools set to be launched with 1.6 will ensure that Stardew Valley continues to see new content for many years to come – whether in an official capacity or not.
