Oxenfree II: Lost Signals launches this July

Oxenfree, the supernatural mystery horror adventure indie title saw a great deal of success following its launch back in 2016. The game’s sequel, originally planned for release back in 2021, was pushed to 2022 – with the title then seeing a further delay to 2023 in order to include additional languages at launch. Now, after multiple delays, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals finally has a release date.

Announced as part of the latest Nintendo Indie World Showcase, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is set to launch on the 12th of July on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC and on mobile via Netflix.

Pitched as being both a standalone story, but also serving as an expansion of the world from the first entry, the prior game’s protagonist Riley Poverly returns for the sequel, with Oxenfree II’s synopsis reading as follows:

“TVs turn on and off. Planes lose radar. Radio stations can't broadcast through the static. In the small coastal town of Camena, unnaturally occurring electromagnetic waves are suddenly causing interference with electrical and radio equipment. Reluctantly, Riley Poverly returns to her hometown to investigate the mystery, but what she finds is more than she bargained for.”

The original Oxenfree released in 2016 and received consistent and high praise from both critics and fans alike, with particular commendation being given to the game’s characters, who felt incredibly human and real.

With the first game delivering so strongly on its characters and story, it will be interesting to see where developers Night School Studio will take Riley and their friends next. Fortunately, fans won’t have too long to wait to find out.
