Rumours have persisted for a while now that Sony is working on a beefed up PlayStation 5, and while this may be the case, one industry insider has now revealed that the console manufacturer is also working on new hardware which is not a PS5 Pro – leading some to hope that the PSVITA might return.
As part of a recent livestream, industry insider Tom Henderson spoke on a number of topics from the PlayStation 5 Pro to the cancellation of E3 and more. Perhaps the most interesting revelation came in the discussion surrounding new and upcoming PlayStation hardware, with Henderson stating:
“There’s also another piece of Sony hardware that will be released before the Pro that I’m more likely to talk about very soon,” adding that “there is more hardware coming from Sony than what’s been reported on at the moment.”
Henderson then elaborated further via Twitter saying “For those asking, the new Sony hardware I alluded to in yesterday's stream hasn't been reported on yet”. For context, Henderson himself has in the past reported on a number of upcoming pieces of hardware including a PS5 Pro; a PlayStation 5 with a removable disc drive; PlayStation earbuds and a new line of PlayStation headsets – meaning this new hardware is none of these.
It will be interesting to see what this new hardware ultimately ends up being, but with Henderson stating that it will be released before the long-rumoured PS5 Pro, hopefully we won’t have too long to wait before finding out.
