Konami opens new “creators first” production studio

After many years away, Konami seems set to be slowly but surely re-entering the video games industry. So far, the publisher has focused on bringing many of its old 2D classics to modern systems such as was the case with the Castlevania Collection. A number of leakers have also claimed that Metal Gear Solid 3 is set to receive a remake soon. Perhaps the most evident proof of Konami’s return to the industry however comes in their latest announcement.

Celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary, Konami published a press release where they revealed the grand opening of their brand new studio, saying “KONAMI Osaka Studio, the Group's major production center, opened in OSAKA UMEDA TWIN TOWERS SOUTH on March 27, 2023 to continue sustainable growth in the next 50 years.”

Speaking on the purpose of this developmental relocation, Konami claimed it to have been built with the primary concept of ‘creators first’, saying “It is characterized by a well-developed environment where creators can demonstrate their full potential.”

Alongside this latest opening, Konami is also currently working on a new research and development centre, ‘Konami Creative Front Tokyo Bay’ – set to be completed by 2025.

After spending so long being merely tangentially related to the video games industry, it is exciting to see that the publisher is seemingly refocusing its efforts and will hopefully be returning to the Konami of old. We will have to wait and see.
