Guerilla confirms Horizon: Forbidden West sequel is in the works

One of the biggest new PlayStation IPs to have been created during the previous generation was that of Horizon Zero Dawn. With the first game having sold over 20 million copies and its 2022 sequel proving to continue the series’ success, it was safe to assume that another mainline entry was on its way. Thanks to a new post from Guerilla Games themselves, a 3rd Horizon game has now been officially confirmed.

Taking to their blog, Guerilla Games’ studio management released a post detailing a number of shake-ups happening at the studio – namely with regards to the promotion of Angie Smets from Studio Director and Executive Producer, to starting a new role as Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios.

Despite the changing in leadership, Guerilla Games seems set to continue on the path they have chartered for the past half a decade, stating that “We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy's next adventure and our exciting online project.”

This marks the first official confirmation that a 3rd mainline Horizon game is happening. As mentioned however, the success of the series (as well as the nature of Forbidden West’s conclusion) heavily implied that more was on the way anyway.

We also knew of the online project currently in the works at Guerilla. That said, the live service title will be its own separate thing, and so in naming Aloy specifically the team have confirmed the existence of Horizon 3 in all but name. Hopefully Guerilla’s new studio directors are able to pick up where Smets left off.
