Sony’s Premium PlayStation Plus tier includes many benefits ranging from exclusive game demos to streaming and more. By far its biggest draw however is the line-up of included classic PSOne, PS2 and PSP titles – including Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror. It being an older title, the game has now been updated to offer quality-of-life improvements in the form of modern controls.
Available through PlayStation Plus Premium – or alternatively can be purchased outright for £7.99 – Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is a PSP stealth game originally released back in 2006. The game was added to the PlayStation Store last month and brings with it a number of enhancements including up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.
Unfortunately, the game’s controls were rather unintuitive due to its older nature, as well as the fact that the game was developed for PSP (which did not have a right analogue stick). Fortunately, the control issues have now been resolved, with the game’s original developers ‘Sony Bend’ taking to Twitter to say:
- “Right-Stick support is enabled by default for a smoother playing experience.
- Top Operative trophy will now pop after replaying the missions.”
While Sony’s classics still have quite a lot of improvements needed in order to properly represent these retro titles, it is welcome nonetheless to see work being done on a case-by-case basis. Hopefully Sony’s classics continue to be supported for years to come – though we will have to see.
