Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty sells 1 million copies as total players surpass 3.8 million

Last week, we reported on the claims by publisher Koei Tecmo that the open-world action game Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has been deemed an early success – though no concrete sales data was shared at the time. Now, the team has officially announced that Wo Long has sold over 1 million copies in less than 2 months.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Wo Long page said “Militia warriors, #WoLongFallenDynasty has sold over 1 million units & has reached over 3.8 million players!”

They continued, “Thank you for the tremendous support! The team is hard at work with future updates as well as the upcoming 3 DLCs. We hope you look forward to our future announcements.”

It is highly interesting to see the breakdown of players, comparing the number of copies sold to the total player count. This of course is due to the fact that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty launched day-one on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service – meaning both PC and Xbox players need not purchase the game in order to give it a go.

That said, even with the 2.8 million players who tried Wo Long through Game Pass, it is impressive to see the game having sold over 1 million copies separately from the service.

While this does not represent Team Ninja’s best-selling game in any capacity, the fact that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty managed to shift over 1 million copies in just two months is impressive, and suggests that given enough time it could very well surpass the likes of Nioh to become one of the studio’s best-selling games. Not bad for a brand new IP which was also made available day-one on Game Pass.
