Intel is currently ramping up Meteor Lake and Intel 4 production

Intel has provided an update on the progress of its upcoming chips and manufacturing nodes during its Q1'2023 earnings announcement. The company is ramping up production of its next-generation client processor, Meteor Lake, putting it on track for launch in the year's second half.

Meteor Lake represents a significant milestone for Intel as it is the first client CPU using chiplets and the company's first heterogeneous chiplet CPU. It will use different chiplets, each representing a specific-purpose tile. Additionally, Meteor Lake will be the lead product for Intel's next-generation EUV-based Intel 4 process node, and it will be Intel's most extensive use of Foveros 3D die stacking technology yet.

The last update from Intel on Meteor Lake came during its Q1'2022 earnings report, where the company announced that it had been successfully powered on for testing. Fast forwarding to today, Intel is making the final adjustments to launch it later this year, as the official launch window is still set for H2 2023. As written on the business highlights on Intel's Q1 2023 earnings report (via Anandtech), Meteor Lake production is ramping for an expected launch in the second half of 2023. Moreover, Intel 3, Intel 20A, and Intel 18A are still on track.

Note that the ramp-up process on Intel's client processors usually takes several months, even if the product doesn't use new manufacturing technologies, which isn't the case with Meteor Lake. With that in mind, we wouldn't be surprised if Intel pushed the release of the supposedly 14th Gen processors to early 2024.

KitGuru says: Overall, the progress of Meteor Lake is crucial for Intel, and the company's innovative use of chiplets and 3D die stacking technology should help it compete with other industry players. Intel's success with Meteor Lake will also be an important indicator of its ability to execute its broader product roadmap.
