AMD unveils the Ryzen 7040U series for lightweight laptops and handhelds

AMD has officially announced the Ryzen “Phoenix” 7040U series. Designed for low-power mobile devices such as lightweight laptops and handheld gaming consoles, these APUs will feature up to eight Zen 4 cores and RDNA 3 iGPUs with up to 12 CUs.

AMD is focusing on offering high efficiency and exceptional battery life with these new APUs. The company has invested heavily in making the 7040U series more power efficient through smart power management features for when the device is unplugged. As for the specs, you can expect up to 8x Zen 4 cores with a max boost of 5.1GHz, RDNA 3 iGPUs with up to 12 CUs (clocked up to 2.7GHz), and a cTDP ranging between 15W and 30W across all SKUs.

The series will feature four APUs that have been detailed in the table below:

With Computex 2023 right around the corner, we should expect to see the first devices using these chips to be announced soon.
