Following years spent in development hell, Dead Island 2 finally released last year to a surprisingly positive response, with the game selling millions of copies, supported by post-launch updates and DLC. Following the release of the two promised expansions, Dead Island 2 is now getting a surprise co-op horde mode.
In alignment with the release of the game’s Ultimate Edition next month, the team at Dambuster Studios announced a free update coming to Dead Island 2 on the 22nd of October, saying:
“Patch 6 will introduce all Dead Island 2 players to the Neighborhood Watch game mode, a new cooperative horde mode. Developed by Fishlabs in collaboration with Dambuster studios, players will have to work together against swarms of zombies, including a new way to strategize against the undead.”
Featuring “new skills, weapons, and traps,” the horde mode will offer a new and – hopefully – infinitely replayable way to experience Dead Island 2’s satisfying/gory gameplay.
Alongside the horde mode, Patch 6 will also add a NewGame+ option, “where players can dive back into the heart of LA (or HELL-A as we call it), armed with their favorite characters and weapons to face a whole new set of challenges and reap new rewards” – alongside additional skill slots and an increased level cap.
Given just how troubled the development of Dead Island 2 was, it is encouraging to see the game not only surviving, but thriving.
