Astro Bot is outselling Ratchet and Clank in the UK

Astro Bot marks the latest and greatest first-party exclusive from Sony, with the PS5 title launching earlier this month to universal acclaim from both critics and players alike. Despite being a relatively new IP, Astro Bot’s first proper game is already outpacing the sales of iconic PlayStation mascots Ratchet and Clank.

As reported by Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz via Twitter, “Astro Bot's UK launch is solid. First week sales are 21% higher than the debut of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 2021. Astro was No.2 last week behind Space Marine 2, which is the UK's fastest-selling Warhammer game (beating Total War: Warhammer 3).”

While Ratchet and Clank is in no way the most popular PlayStation IP (with the most recent entry selling ‘just’ 1.1 million in its first month), considering the fact that the series has been going on since the early PS2 days, Astro Bot’s success is notable.

Of course, these figures pertain only to the UK, and so it will be interesting to see how the two compare globally (especially as Rift Apart went on to sell 4 million in its first two years).

Regardless, hopefully there has been enough buzz surrounding Astro Bot to warrant Sony investing further in the burgeoning IP.
