While they may not be as big of a household name as some publishers, Koei Tecmo have amassed a respectable collection of franchises over the years. Despite this, they are not afraid to take risks on new IPs, with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Wild Hearts being two of the most recent examples. Fortunately, both games have been deemed a success in the eyes of Koei Tecmo, cementing these titles as potential new IPs for the publisher.
As collated by industry analyst MauroNL, Koei Tecmo recently released their Fiscal earnings report for FY2022, revealing that the publisher as a whole saw its revenue increase by 7.8% – thorough overall net profits are down by 12.5% year-on-year.
All that said, the publisher’s recent releases have been performing well, with them confirming that both the Souls-like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and the Monster Hunter-inspired Wild Hearts had “successful” launches – though no concrete sales data was released.
Koei Tecmo did offer some deeper details on their other recent titles, revealing that the niche crafting-focused JRPG Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key has sold over 290,000 copies since its release on 23rd of March. For comparison, the first Atelier Ryza game managed to shift half a million copies during its first year on the market, meaning that this 3rd entry is well on its way to long-term success. It is always good to see smaller games and publishers doing well.
