We're still some ways off from AMD officially announcing new Zen 5 CPUs and its next generation of Ryzen processors for laptops. However, according to a new report, specs are beginning to leak.
A new video from Moore's Law Is Dead reports information about the CPU and GPU architectures for Ryzen 8000 mobile processors, including core counts, release dates and basic architecture details.
Starting with Strix Point, this platform is expected to succeed the Ryzen 7040 series. Based on a 4nm monolithic design, these APUs are expected to use a hybrid design with up to 12 cores (4C/8T Zen 5 + 8C/16T Zen 5c) and 24MB of unified L3 cache. Early Cinebench R23 benchmarks show it outperforming a Phoenix APU by 35% at the same power limit (50W). The iGPU will be based on the new RDNA3+ architecture with up to 16 CUs and no Infinity Cache. Still, it's targeted to be on par with an RTX 3050 at 35W. Moreover, these APUs will feature a 20 TOPS AI engine and a 128-bit LPDDR5X memory controller. The first Strix Point chips will apparently launch in Q2/Q3 2024.
Moving on to Strix Halo, it's said it will come as a “large chiplet APU” to rival the Apple M-series chips. Packing up to 16 Zen 5 cores (32 threads), early benchmark results put it above Dragon Range by 25% when both are limited to 90W. Besides the 16-core model, AMD is expected to release 12-core, 8-core and 6-core models. The highlight of this architecture is the iGPU. The report talks about four RDNA 3+ iGPUs with 40, 32, 24 and 20 CUs that will compete with the RTX 4070 (95W), RTX 4060 (65W) and the RTX 4050 laptop GPUs. Lastly, it will feature a 40 TOPS AI engine and a 256-bit LPDDR5X memory controller. The expected release date for Strix Halo is H2 2024.
Details on Fire Range are still scarce, but it's said it will use up to 16 Zen 5 cores (5nm) and an inferior RDNA 2 iGPU. The same happens for Hawk Point, which is rumoured to be a refresh of Phoenix Point based on the 4nm node. The former is expected to debut in H2 2024, while the latter should come sooner, in H1 2024.

KitGuru says: We're still a long way off from getting confirmation on any of this information, so take it with a grain of salt for now. Zen 5 is marked for 2024, so AMD will have more official details to share closer to the time.
