PSVR2 is finally coming to retailers next month

Sony’s PlayStation VR2 launched in late February to high praise across the board with many deeming it to be the best virtual reality headset available. Unfortunately, the headset has had somewhat of a slow start, with leakers reporting that Sony has cut the hardware’s production by 20%. That said, up until now, PSVR2 was only purchasable through Sony’s own PlayStation Direct website. Finally, the headset will soon be available across retailers.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official PlayStation page said “PlayStation VR2 will soon be in stock at local retailers, in addition to http://direct.playstation.com. Check your local retailer for availability.”

In going to other retailers, we can see that PlayStation VR2 will begin shipping from the 12th of May, marking the day as somewhat of a second launch for the headset.

As mentioned, early figures for the PSVR2 headset seemed to be somewhat lukewarm. That said, with the device so far only being purchasable online and directly from Sony themselves, it is safe to assume that the headset will soon find itself in a lot more homes thanks to this upcoming wider release.

In many ways, the initial release of PSVR2 back in February feels somewhat like a soft-launch for the product, with the upcoming retail release being the true start of the headset’s life. As such, it will be highly interesting to see whether PSVR2 sales begin to pick up from next month onwards. We will have to wait and see.
