BioShock 4 has reportedly been stuck in ‘development hell’

We've known that 2K studio Cloud Chamber has been working away on a new BioShock game for a few years already, utilising the latest technologies, including Unreal Engine 5. Unfortunately, new leaks are claiming that the game is in a rough place right now.

Twitter leaker OopsLeaks, who has reported BioShock updates a number of times over the past year, is now claiming that the game appears to be stuck in development hell. According to their claimed source, the game has been rebooted four times in development already, which isn't too unusual for a game going through pre-production, but it is also claimed that the writing team has been unable to nail down a narrative that the team is happy to move forward with.

It is also claimed that there have been leadership changes and organisation issues, which were compounded by the pandemic and the shift to work from home.

The thread ends on a positive note though, claiming that the project has seemingly been getting back on track this year. This would imply that the project isn't actually in development hell, but rather, the team has iterated and tried a number of ideas already before deciding to change course. This is a standard part of the development process, but considering Take-Two may have this game planned for FY2025 (April 2024 to March 2025), we would expect things to be further along at this point.

A recent Take-Two earnings call also suggested that the game is still scheduled to release in FY2025, but we'll have to wait and see if that proves to be true.
