The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom officially launched today. The game has already garnered a ton of extremely positive reviews, making it an easy GOTY contender for 2023. Now, speedrunners are already finding impressive ways to clear the game in record time.
Like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom is a massive game with a huge open world to explore, although this time Hyrule is broken up into levels, with the mainland on the ground, islands floating in the sky and (spoiler warning) a pretty big underground map section too. Beyond that, the game is hiding tons of shrines and dungeons to explore and complete.
Given the size of the game, you would expect the first speedruns to clock in at several hours at least. However, players are already finding ways to drastically cut down on time. The most impressive run so far comes from gymnast86, who completed the game in just over 94 minutes. Almost half of that time is spent clearing the game's intro, which takes roughly 40 minutes.
While this initial speedrun is 94 minutes, there are already evident ways to shave time off. These early speedruns are still feeling out the game and all the necessities for clearing the final boss. Within a week or two, we'll probably start to see speedruns getting closer to the hour mark and eventually, bugs and tricks will be discovered to shrink the time down further.
