Zelda Tears of the Kingdom launch sales nearly triple BOTW

After six long years of waiting, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is here – and it does not seem to be disappointing neither fans nor Nintendo, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s launch being almost 3x bigger than its predecessor.

As reported by the UK-focused Gfk (and collated by Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom after just two days has already managed to become the 8th best-selling Zelda game of all time in the region – having outsold Skyward Sword, The Wind Waker and A Link Between Worlds. It is worth noting that the Gfk only reports on boxed sales, making this feat especially impressive.

That is not all, as the game has also managed to achieve the second-biggest launch for Nintendo; only behind Pokemon Scarlet and Violet but 173% bigger than Breath of the Wild.

Finally, Tears of the Kingdom has already become the 4th biggest game in the franchise in terms of revenue – though this was undoubtedly aided by Tear’s of the Kingdom’s increased price.

With The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom seeing such a strong launch, it will be interesting to see just how quickly the game rises the ranks in Nintendo’s list of best-selling Switch titles of all time.
