We have seen the video games industry as a whole expand to other mediums, with many publishers handing their IPs off to be adapted into films, TV and more. Sony is one of the biggest players in this space currently, having already released a number of successful adaptations. In the latest announcement, a Warner Bros executive is now joining Bungie to help create films and shows based in the Destiny universe.
As reported by TheGamePost, Gabriel VanHuss – a former Warner Bros. Discovery executive – took to LinkedIn to announce his new position at Bungie, saying “I recently took the gig as Head of Linear Media for the Destiny franchise at Bungie. This new position will work with the Destiny Universe Leadership team to create strategy and execute the operations for expansion of Destiny into new media, including TV, films, books, comics, and audio formats.”
VanHuss continued, “Destiny has a universe worth of stories waiting to be told, and I look forward to connecting best-in-class partners to our amazing creative team to bring them to life for current and new fans. Eyes up, guardian!”
We first reported on this position back in April of last year and so it is exciting to see there now being movement in this area. Destiny’s lore is rich, varied and unique. It is unfortunate that the games have been mostly unable to capture and express this lore in an enticing way. Hopefully, the expansion to other forms of media helps to flesh out the world of Destiny in a new way.
