Early Access release of The Outlast Trials sells 500k copies in one week

Nearly 6 years after the last entry in the series, Outlast is back, with the 3rd entry in the survival horror franchise – The Outlast Trials – launching via Steam Early Access in the 3rd week of May. Despite there being no release date for the full experience, The Outlast Trials has already sold over half a million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the team behind The Outlast series – Red Barrels – said “The Outlast Trials has sold over 500k copies in its first week in Early Access and we could not be more proud! Thank you to all our Reagents for your support! Venture into Murkoff’s Trials alone or with friends and test your fortitude TODAY!”

Half a million copies for an Early Access game is rather impressive, though this is likely just the beginning for The Outlast Trials. For comparison’s sake, the first Outlast game has sold over 4 million copies as of 2016. That said, while there are no updated figures for the individual games, it was confirmed that the series has sold over 15 million copies in total.

With The Outlast Trials so far only available on PC via Early Access, it will be interesting to see just how many copies are sold once the game goes 1.0 and is released across all platforms.
