Mortal Kombat 1 officially announced, releasing in September

In recent weeks, we've heard plenty of rumours around the next Mortal Kombat game. Today, just as promised, NetherRealm is officially unveiling Mortal Kombat 1, set in a “reborn” MK universe.

The setup is pretty simple, at the end of Mortal Kombat 11, Liu Kang is successful in his fight and essentially creates a new universe, which will be the setting for Mortal Kombat 1. The official announcement trailer is roughly two and a half minutes long, but it is entirely cinematic, so we'll have to wait a bit longer for gameplay.

The trailer arrives with the following quote from NetherRealm: “It's In Our Blood. Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and Fatalities!”

Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders will begin tomorrow. Anyone who does pre-order will get beta access in August and you'll unlock Shang Tsung as a playable character,

Mortal Kombat 1 will be releasing on the 19th of September for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
