Skyrim has officially sold over 60 million copies

When you think of games being re-released, many think of Skyrim. First launched all the way back in 2011, the open-world RPG has appeared on pretty much every platform available in some way or another. That said, this wide reach has allowed for the game to be a huge commercial success over the past decade – officially selling over 60 million copies.

In an interview conducted by IGN, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard discussed many aspects of the upcoming Sci-fi RPG Starfield, inadvertently confirming that their 2011 megahit Skyrim has now sold over 60 million copies, saying:

“We’re sitting here, it’s 12 years after Skyrim. We’re looking at a game that has over 60 million copies, and all these people playing…they’re still playing it. And so we have learned we need to build in from the beginning a game that has long-term play thought of – so hopefully people are playing Starfield a long time from now.”

It’s been a while since we last got an update on Skyrim’s sales performance, with prior figures revealing that the game had sold 30 million copies as of 2016. While it has been a long time since then, it is impressive nonetheless to see the game double its sales so many years after its initial release.

With 60 million copies sold, Skyrim is now the 7th best-selling video game of all time, sandwiched between the OG Super Mario Bros. (58 million copies) and Mario Kart 8 + Deluxe (62.25 million). With The Elder Scrolls 6 nowhere in sight, it will be interesting to see just how many copies Skyrim will have sold by the time its sequel is finally released.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Skyrim all these years later? When do you think The Elder Scrolls 6 will come out? Will Skyrim become a top 5 best-selling game of all time? Let us know your thoughts down below.
