The Metro series has never been a blockbuster franchise, with the games seeing a respectable amount of success relative to their popularity. That said, the latest entry in the series – Metro Exodus – seems to have broken free of this niche, as the game has sold over 8.5 million copies.
Making the announcement as part of its most recent Quarterly earnings call (and shared by the Embracer-focused Twitter page ‘EmbracerInvestor’) it was revealed that since its release in 2019 Metro Exodus has managed to sell an impressive 8.5 million copies.
What’s more, 500,000 of those copies were sold in just the last Quarter – an impressive number given the game is now over 4 years old. Thanks to the title’s inclusion on Xbox Game Pass in the past, the total player count for Metro Exodus has actually exceeded 10 million.
For comparison’s sake, the first entry in the series – Metro 2033 – sold 1.5 million copies within its first two years on the market. Similarly, while exact sales figures for the game’s sequel (Metro: Last Light) were not shared, we do know that the remastered collection of the first two titles ‘Metro Redux’ likewise sold 1.5 million copies.
Though the figures for the first two Metro titles are somewhat outdated, it is still interesting nonetheless to see just how many more copies Exodus has managed to shift in a relatively short amount of time. Hopefully we hear more from the team at 4A Games soon.
