Adobe Flash Player 10.1 released – GPU acceleration

Adobe have been in the press almost daily lately, as their feud with Apple continues. Fans of Flash Player will be pleased to hear however that they have finally released 10.1 player to the public today with the mobile version due to hit around October this year.

10.1 is not a minor upgrade for Adobe as it offers a plethora of new functionality. Peer to peer broadcasting is supported, as well as more stable streaming video support. Additionally it also offers better memory management capabilities with mobile accelerometer and multitouch utilisation. Buffer lagging is also said to be noticeably better.

The main focus however for Adobe has been with GPU acceleration for both ATI and nVidia users on Windows and Linux platforms. It is not yet coming to Mac OSx but that is set to be rolled out in the near future.

Whether you love or loathe Flash the adoption on the internet is massive with over 75% of games online using the platform. According to the company, Flash Player 10.1 is the first runtime release of the Open Screen Project “that enables uncompromised Web browsing of expressive applications, content and video across devices.”

You can get the player for yourself, over here and be sure to let us know how it improves your experience.

KitGuru says: GPU acceleration is a fantastic option, especially for those people with lower specification processors.
