ASUS unveils ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD gaming monitor

Asus ROG is expanding its OLED gaming monitor lineup with the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD. Like MSI, Asus is also making a massive 49-inch superwide OLED monitor for the high-end market.

At a staggering 49 inches, the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms response time and 5120×1440 resolution, the desktop real estate equivalent to two separate 16:9 1440p displays. With a peak brightness of 1000 nits, the monitor is prepared for HDR content too. The monitor offers true 10-bit colour depth and covers 99% of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 gamut, meeting the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification requirements. Additionally, it supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro eliminating screen tearing and ensuring minimal input lag.

Thanks to a KVM switch, users can effortlessly control two PCs with a single keyboard and mouse. Splitting the screens across the wide display allows you to seamlessly switch control between devices as the mouse moves from one side to the other. Moreover, it will enable fast file transfers between the connected devices, courtesy of USB 3.2 connectivity.

The PG49WCD has various DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 ports for video and USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports for peripheral and storage device connectivity. A USB Type-C port with 90W power delivery is also available, allowing for simultaneous charging and display connectivity.

To ensure longevity and minimise burn-in risk, Asus has incorporated a cooling solution into the PG49WCD. Featuring a sizable custom heatsink to cool the mainboard, it eliminates the need for a noisy fan. In addition, a graphene film is placed behind the OLED panel to dissipate heat and reduce the risk of image retention.

The ROG-exclusive Uniform Brightness setting further enhances the viewing experience. Unlike standard OLED displays that dynamically adjust brightness when resizing windows with white backgrounds, causing noticeable fluctuations, the Uniform Brightness setting ensures consistent levels.

KitGuru says: On paper, the ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD looks like a great ultrawide monitor. However, considering its specs, don't expect it to come cheap.
