After a delay Palworld finally launches on PS5 in Japan

Palworld is one of the biggest breakout hits of 2024, with the monster collecting survival game breaking Steam records and selling over 15 million copies on PC alone in just a month. The game eventually saw its release on PlayStation 5 in September – except in Japan. Finally however, the not-Pokemon-inspired survival MMO is now available in its country of origin.

Making the announcement on Twitter, The Japanese Palworld page shared the following (Google-translated) message:

“Sorry for the wait! Finally, today, the PS5 version of ‘Palworld’ is now playable. We are very sorry for the delay in release. We will continue to provide exciting and large-scale updates to the PS5 version so that everyone can enjoy the game even more. We look forward to your continued support of Pal World.”

Palworld Japan

As mentioned, Palworld saw a surprise PS5 launch last month in all regions except for Japan. While not officially stated, the PS5 release came right in the wake of a lawsuit by Nintendo – likely leading to the delay.

All that said, it is nice to see that Japanese fans won’t have to wait for all the legal proceedings to conclude before being able to play Palworld. It’ll be interesting to see how said lawsuit pans out.
