Red Dead Redemption design lead forms new game studio

Davide Soliani, the director of the surprise hit Mario + Rabbids, and Christian Cantamessa, lead designer of Red Dead Redemption, have teamed up to open a new studio. The new company, Day 4 Night, is working on a new videogame with a group of veteran developers.

Early leads at the Day 4 Night studio have worked on some of the biggest franchises in gaming, including the likes of Star Wars, Ghost Recon, Mario and more. The studio has already secured investment from the publisher Krafton, as well as 1UP Ventures, which aims to help new studios get started.

Soliani only left Ubisoft a few months ago in June, after spending a long 25 years at the company. He left at the right time, as the last few months have not been kind to Ubisoft in the wider gaming discourse.

Day 4 Night's first game will be a new IP, and it is claimed to be “the most creative thing” this group of developers have worked on “in quite some time”. Unfortunately, we have no idea when this game will be ready for a proper reveal, but we may get some concept art a few months down the line as part of a recruiting drive.

KitGuru Says: We've seen some interesting new studios popping up from former veterans at some of the biggest studios. Former leads from Blizzard, BioWare, Bethesda, Rockstar, Rocksteady, Ubisoft, Riot and other giants have grouped together to spawn around a dozen new companies in the past five years. The fruits of that labour should start to pop up pretty soon.
