Princess Peach to get her own game for the first time in 20 years

Mario is undeniably one of the most well known video game characters of all time, and Princess Peach is right beside him – having been a core part of almost every single Mario game since the franchise’s inception. Unfortunately, Peach has rarely been allowed to enter the limelight solo. As such, it is exciting to hear that a brand new Peach focused game is currently in development.

As part of the recent Nintendo Direct, the console manufacturer announced a number of Mario and Mario-related games. Perhaps the most surprising was also the most vague – with Princess Peach set to get her own game for the first time in almost two decades.

Very few details were shared, with Nintendo simply saying “A brand-new game starring Princess Peach is coming to #NintendoSwitch in 2024! Stay tuned for more details”. That said, we did get a brief teaser trailer which actually included some gameplay, showing off a 3D side-scroller with what appears to be real-time combat.

As mentioned, Princess Peach hasn’t had her own standalone game since Super Princess Peach all the way back in 2005 for the Nintendo DS – with the only other Peach title being Princess Toadstool’s Castle Run, which came out almost 35 years ago. After spending so many years being saved by Mario, it will be interesting to see how this game evolves Princess Peach.
