Street Fighter 6 breaks Steam concurrent record for fighting games

In the lead up to Street Fighter 6, both Capcom and fans alike seemed confident in the fact that this latest fighting game would be a big deal. With the game finally out, we can now see that this is indeed the case, with SF6 managing to achieve the highest peak concurrent user count of any paid fighting game on Steam – beating out the likes of Tekken and Mortal Kombat.

In going to the Steam charts, we can see that since its release on the 2nd of June, the next-generation fighting game has managed to amass an audience of over 65,000 peak concurrent players. While this may not initially seem like too big of a deal, industry analyst Benji Sales reported that this marks SF6 as being by far the biggest fighting game in the platform’s history in terms of concurrent players.

For comparison’s sake, the 2nd most-played fighting game on Steam is Mortal Kombat 11, having managed to amass a total of 35,000 concurrent users during its peak. 3rd place then goes to Tekken 7 with a much lower peak of just under 19,000 users. Rounding out the top 5 is Mortal Kombat X with nearly 16,000 concurrent players and Street Fighter V with just under 15,000.

With the undeniable early success of Street Fighter 6, it will be interesting to see how both Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 perform when both titles release in the coming months.
