Apple announce email chain with CEO was faked

Apple have made an announcement saying that Steve Jobs was not the author of a series of comments in an email exchange with an end user regarding iPhone 4 reception.

The comments which were published yesterday by Boy Genius Report linked a series of email responses to Apples CEO. In these emails he reportedly said:

“No, you are getting all worked up over a few days of rumors. Calm down.”
“You are most likely in an area with very low signal strength.”
“You may be working from bad data. Not your fault. Stay tuned. We are working on it.”
“Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.”

After Boy Genius Report published this story they later corrected it saying that the customer appeared to have faked the email exchange. Philip Elmer-Dewitt of the Fortune 2.0 blog reported that after speaking with Apple PR they were in fact lies. “Asked on the record whether Steve Jobs was the author of any of these statements, a top Apple spokesman emphatically denied it.”

  1. This is a problem for such a high profile executive who clearly does reply to some customers. I was wondering when something like this might happen. Wouldn’t be surprised if the ‘customer’ was a Nokia representative !

  2. Some idiots will make anything up, sad.
