Samsung Galaxy S Phone sells 1 million units in 6 weeks

Samsung will be proud of their latest achievement – selling over 1 million Galaxy S Phones in the USA across a 6 week time peroid. While this falls way short of the 1.7 million iPhone 4's sold in a single weekend (!), it still proves that there is a large audience outside the ‘Apple faithful'.

The Galaxy S Phone is being sold by multiple carriers, the biggest of which T-Mobile Vibrant and AT&T Captivate offered the majority of the million sales.

Samsung has employed a multicarrier strategy with The Galaxy S platform with four varieties being offered to four U.S. carriers – featuring slight differences in aesthetic appeal and functionality. The four names are Epic 4G on Sprint, Captivate on AT&T, Fascinate on Verizon and Vibrant on T-Mobile.

All the phones obviously share primary technical specifications, being based on a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen with a 5 megapixel camera and a 1GHZ processor with GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi support.

We particularly like the Sprint Epic 4G as it features a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a front facing camera (above). You can read more about each of the phones over here.

All phones ship with Android 2.1 with Android 2.2 Froyo being offered in the near future (late 2010). Sales have been helped by the mainly positive reviews across the net, with reviewers happy with the combination of performance, build quality and featureset.

KitGuru says: We will see Android taking a larger piece of the pie over the coming 6 months.

  1. Very good sales figures indeed. pale next to apple but you can’t really compare against them anymore.

  2. Android are really good phones !

  3. Froyo is the one we all want, needs to be adopted for sales to go up, its a great OS< much superior to 2.1
