Is Android the future?

We have been publishing many stories recently on Google's Android operating system and we even reviewed the new Dell Streak which makes full use of the platform. What many people aren't realising however is that the platform is undergoing some staggering growth trends lately.

Android in August has taken share from every major player and has captured 25% of the US mobile market.

Marin Perez of IntoMobile said “[Yes], the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch [may] still [be] the king of this space with about 56% of the market but that's an 11% decrease from this time last year, [And] both platforms are still growing, as the smartphone market is poised for explosive growth. Google said it is activating more than 200,000 Android units a day, while Apple claims it is activating more than 230,000 iOS units per day.”

KitGuru says: Quantcast's chart looks bad for all non Android players as they slip and this trend looks to be very positive for Google indeed – if this rate of growth continues then Android will have the majority of the US mobile browser market within a year.

  1. I think it deserves to do well, its a better OS than Apples and the phones are more affordable and reliable. Only thing they miss is the excellent itunes store.
