KitGuru was speaking this weekend with industry insiders in Taipei and we were informed that capactive touch technology is set to grow to around 50% marketshare in the handset sector in 2011.
Young Fast Optoelectronics chairman TJ Lin also spoke to Digitimes about the growth and he said that around 20% of the companies total revenues are generated by Capactive touch panel production and he expects growth to reach 30% in the fourth quarter of this year.
Competing maker J Touch have stated that they expect capacitive growth to around 45% in the last half of the year, up from 20% in the first.
Capacitive touch panels are glass/film based designs and have a lower production cost advantage when compared to resistive touch technology.
KitGuru says: Resistive technology is not likely to disappear however as it still has a high adoption rate within the 2.8 inch and smaller handset marketplace.
