In the wake of E3’s cancellation, Geoff Keighley formed a new event – Summer Game Fest. Following the conclusion of 2023’s showcase, Keighley has now confirmed that SGF will return bigger and better than ever in 2024 – cementing it as the new replacement for the Electronics Entertainment Expo.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Geoff Keighley wrote: “After a record-setting 2023, we are excited to share some news: #SummerGameFest will return in June 2024, including our live showcase event hosted by @geoffkeighley and #SummerGameFest Play Days from @iam8bit. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.”
Typically, Keighley will share a number of stats pertaining to the event’s success, including total viewership and the like. While we have yet to get any concrete numbers, Keighley calling SGF a “record-setting 2023” seems to suggest that the event was a success after all.
With Keighley now in charge of Summer Game Fest, Gamescom Opening Night Live and The Game Awards, the vision for what makes a games showcase lies in the palms of one man. Fortunately, at least for now, Keighley has been doing a good job of celebrating and showcasing the future of video games.
