Outriders developer signs with Xbox for new action-adventure game

People Can Fly didn't quite strike it big with Outriders. The studio recently confirmed that the project has still not turned a profit, but the company does now have funding for something new. People Can Fly has signed a publishing agreement with Xbox Game Studios for its next project.

People Can Fly's next game will be an Xbox console exclusive by the looks of things. The game is in development under the codename ‘Project Maverick' and will have up to a $50 million budget. The game is being fully funded by Microsoft, which means Microsoft will also own the IP for future use once.

People Can Fly has worked with Microsoft before, having worked on Gears of War: Judgement back in the day. The studio's most recent project was Outriders, a co-op action game. The game has more in common with Diablo than Destiny, but the game was still widely thought of as another ‘live service' title.

This new game will be a “highly ambitious, groundbreaking action-adventure title”. It'll be a few years before we get to see and judge the game in action though, as development is just beginning.

KitGuru Says: With this deal, we can safely assume that this game will release day-one on Xbox Game Pass, just as Outriders did.
