Lord of the Rings: Gollum studio shuts down game development operations

While Daedalic Entertainment did seem to have plans for another Lord of the Rings game after Gollum, the company has now decided to make some major changes. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was so critically panned that Daedalic is now choosing to end development on internal projects and will instead focus all of its efforts on publishing.

In a statement sent to German outlet gameswirtshaft, a Daedalic spokesperson confirms that it is no longer going to develop video games and around 25 employees will be let go.

“We value each and every member of our team and it is important to us that the transition goes as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we will support our former employees in finding new opportunities within our network”, the company said.

This change marks “a new beginning in the long history of Daedalic Entertainment”, as the company will end game development operations to focus purely on publishing and helping other developers bring their games to market.

KitGuru Says: Making games is certainly a difficult task and when you get an IP as big as The Lord of the Rings, expectations are going to be very high. Hopefully this is something Embracer Group keeps in mind as it begins pushing to turn LOTR into one of the biggest IP in gaming.
