Apple are hosting a new event on October the 20th called “Back To The Mac”. One of the key points of this upcoming event is that they will be showing the next major version of Mac OS X. It is rumoured that they may also use this event to refresh the Macintosh line.
Apple have been sending out invites this week for the Back To The Mac display head at Cupertino, California on October 20th. The invite hints at a showcasing of the next major version of Macintosh OS X.
The invite highlights a lion's head on the front, peeking through an apple shaped cutout in a brushed aluminum pane. This could be their chosen code name for OSX 10.7 although nothing is yet official. They always use big cat names for operating system names so it would make sense. Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard have already been used.
Obviously, as with everything Apple, the internet is now alive with rumour and speculation that Apple may also feature a new range of computers at this event. They have already updated their mobile range, such as the iPad and iPhone so it would make sense if this approach was taken.
Their last event on September the 1st showcased the new Apple TV which has received a mixed reception from critics saying it is inferior to the last version, if it is significantly cheaper.
Snow Leopard has received a lot of updates lately, security and application tweaks and fixes so the new version of OS X is already generating a lot of talk amongst Apple fan sites.
KitGuru says: A new OS and a new range of desktop computers sounds like good reason to attend the event.
dont really use Apple so much but i do have respect and a guilty admiration 🙂
Apple seem to be leading atm when Nokia, Microsoft and others in years past ignored the need to develop new form factors etc and now these companys are finally starting to catch up.
Competition is good, wakes everyone up and is kinda like natural selection ha ha
