Amazon Kindle still alive and kicking

Against all odds, Amazon's Kindle has not been put to death by Apple's all conquering iPad – latest reports show that each month sales are getting stronger.

Amazon dropped the price of their e-reading device to $189 recently and this has helped the adoption rate. Keff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com said “We've reached a tipping point with the new price of Kindle–the growth rate of Kindle device unit sales has tripled since we lowered the price from $259 to $189”.

Amazon have said that millions of people are already enjoying the Kindle but they have yet to name the exact number of sales across the world to date. They have been proud in saying that Kindle book sales have overtaken hardcover book sales, which is a staggering achievement. With over 630,000 books available for sale and 1,800,000 available for free, the platform is already massively strong.

So why would you get a Kindle and not an iPad? Well, if you main focus was just reading books and not the multimedia aspects, then the Kindle is actually a better solution, because the Kindle uses an e-reader screen which has no backlight and gives a sensation of actually reading a normal paper book. They are low power devices and the battery life can last for weeks without a charge. The weight is also a benefit as the lowest cost iPad is over twice as heavy – 24 ounces against 10.2 ounces.

KitGuru says: We are pleased that the Kindle is doing well, it is a beautiful device totally designed for reading material.
