Whether you love them or loathe them, Apple have pretty much still got the tablet PC market covered, especially when we hear that the HP Slate hasn't risen to the ‘Apple challenge'.
The iPad sells around 46,000 units a day and it has done for the last quarter. The HP Slate has been listed as having a total run of 9,000 units.
Hewlett Packard were promoting the Slate as a new generation of Microsoft Tablet PCs running Windows 7 under the new title of ‘Slate PC'. The inclusion of a ‘full' windows operating system was a key selling point, especially after the failure of Windows CE in a similar market.
Engadget said that a ‘trusted tipster' told it that HP only “ever planned a limited production run of 5,000 units” and “apparently had to re-hire production workers just to get the presses printing out tablets again, and are presently placating angry customers by offering them over $100 off their $800 purchase as apology.”
On their website HP said “due to extraordinary demand, the HP slate is on backorder. Orders are expected to ship in 6 weeks. Order now to reserve your place in the queue.”
KitGuru says: Is this the first sign that Apple now dominate this market and that nothing else will be able to offer a serious challenge?
I had hoped a few of these might offer a challenge, but Apple have been marketing the ipad for too long now and everyone loves them. HP have made a right mess of this.
I wonder why I haven’t heard much from Apple haters/idiots that only a few months ago all convinced that the Slate will kill the iPad and how the whole web experience bla bla. Now to all those Apple haters/idiots, you must be pretty embarrassed of all the trash talks. Now do you finally admit, softly to yourself ofcourse, that Apple just maybe know what they are doing. But ofcourse you trailer trash, Democrat folks, with limited funds, would never admit it out loud.
Yes I am an Apple fanboi and proud of it. Especially, with 1000 Apple shares at over $300.00 bucks a share. You may call be a fanboi :). Now where are iPad killers?
Nook Color is better for reading than iPad and better for everything else than Kindle. Nook Color is better for $249. Nook Color screen is supposed to be better (less reflective) for reading than iPad thanks to new LG screen with anti-reflection coating. It allows to watch videos, listen to the music, view Office documents and PDF’s. The Nook Color will not run apps straight out of the Android Market, but that does not mean it cannot run them. In fact, they have done a lot of tests on apps from standard Android smartphones and they pretty much run on Nook Color, which has Android 2.1 under the hood. (The Nook native interface and apps are just standard Android application layers.) Barnes & Noble special Nook SDK runs on top of the standard Android one and gives developers access to exclusive extensions and APIs for the Nook and its interface. So porting Android apps is not difficult. B&N says it is more like optimising them for Nook than porting them. If you prefer e-Ink screen, the original Nook is still available from BN.
