Wikileaks founder arrested in London – rape investigations

After hiding in the UK for a while, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested. The Metropolitan Police have announced that he was taken into custody a few hours ago.

Mark Stephens, Assange's lawyer had earlier said he was going to deliver him to authorities for questioning in a rape investigation launched initially by the Swedish authorities.

Stephens has said that his client claims innocence and that the encounters were consensual sex and not rape. He has stated that the investigations are a political stunt and that Assange wants to clear his name on these allegations.

Interpol placed Assange on its most-wanted list on Nov. 30 after Sweden issued an arrest warrant. Wikileaks is battling to stay online after being shut down several times in recent weeks.
