Beatles sell 2,000,000 songs in a week on iTunes

The Beatles finally made their entrance into the world of online digitial music downloads last week, and latest reports show that they have sold 450,000 albums, totalling 2 million songs.

Apple announced the deal with the Beatles music catalogue last week, including a digital box set that includes 13 studio albums, a two volume ‘Past Masters' compilation and the concert film ‘Live at the Washington Colliseum, 1964.'

Lack of shoewear: Paul McCartney liked to live dangerously

Billboard have reported sales of 119,000 albums in the US alone, including 13,000 digital box sales. The biggest selling album on iTunes was 1969's ‘Abbey Road' and the top selling song was ‘Here Comes The Sun.'

Sales were helped by Apple's intensive marketing campaign both online and on television, airing during ABC's American Music Awards and NBC's Sunday Night Football.

  1. Have to love the beatles, must have sold over a billion songs by now.

  2. Always amazes me when I read statistics like this. Why the hell can’t people just rip their CD’s? it takes literally 2 minutes. Baffling how they sold so many songs in a week.
