Intel make chips for startup firm with more in line

For the first time ever Intel have agreed to make processors for a startup firm, in a deal which is due to be announced later today. News has just reached KitGuru from Taipei.

The startup firm Achronix Semiconductor Corp make chips that are specially designed for specific requirements, such as aerospace, Industrial, encryption and other applications.

Intels Bill Kircos

Intel spokesman Bill Kircos told the Wall Street Journal that this production would account for less than 1 percent of Intel's production capacity on the new process. Kircos also said that this could be the start of Intel making chips for more companies as well as Achronix.

Achronix Semiconductor are a privately held fabless corporation based in San Jose, California. Achronix builds the world's fastest field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) which use a unique patented circuit technology, providing 1.5 GHz throughput, a significant performance advantage over traditional FPGA technology.
