Director uses iPhone 4 to shoot $133,000 movie

A South Korean film director named Park Chan-Wook has used an iPhone 4 to shoot a movie entitled ‘Paranmanjang'.

All of us are familar with the iPhone 4, but this is the first time we have heard of it being a source tool for a movie. This particular script is based around a man, who likes to fish and who catches a woman. The title of the film translates into ‘life full of ups and downs'. Apparently, using the iPhone 4 gave it a unique quality, according to sources involved. We can only assume the unique quality is very familar to millions of videos already on Youtube.

They say that because the phone is cheap compared to professional camera equipment that they could buy more  and use them positioned in various angles to create various effects.

“There are some good points of making a movie with the iPhone as there are many people around the world who like to play and have fun with them. It is light and small, and … anyone can use it. The new technology creates strange effects because it is new and because it is a medium the audience is used to.” said Chan-wook.

The 30 minute movie was a low budget project, costing around $133,000. It is due for release in South Korea on January 27th.

Chan Wook has had good success in the past, “Old Boy” won second place at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and “Thirst” tied for third place in Cannes in 2009.
