It hasn't been a particularly good week for Intel – the Sandybridge chipset fault has been hitting the headlines across the globe. All of the major Intel partners are busy scrambling around like headless chickens, trying to make sure they look after their customer base.
MSI spoke with KitGuru this afternoon and they have issued the following statement:
“MSI has been informed by Intel about the potential design issues in the Intel 6 series chipsets. According to Intel the performance of some of the Intel SATA ports on Intel 6 series products can degrade over a period of 3 years. MSI takes the quality of our products very seriously, so at this moment we are investigating product batches that may be affected and, meanwhile, have stopped all shipments to our distributors and resellers. Additionally, we asked resellers to hold sales of the Intel 6 series based MSI products to customers until the issue can be resolved.
End-users who have already purchased MSI Intel 6 Series motherboards are advised to wait for our update highlighting the actual products affected. We are working closely with Intel to help identify this as soon as possible. For MSI notebook and all-in-one product lines, we can confirm that there are currently no products in the UK channel which are affected by this issue.
As soon as we have more information we will announce this to our customers.”
If anyone is experiencing issues with any of the MSI boards then be advised to avoid the Intel controller.
Here is a quick graphic explaining how it works (be aware all boards will be slightly different, consult your manual to find out which ports to bypass).
ITs good to see their partners being so proactive about it all.
I like MSI a lot, good they are first out the door, behind Samsung.
