Nokia close to pairing up with Microsoft to tackle smartphone market

It looks as if KitGuru were right again a few weeks ago when we heard that Nokia were set to pair up with Microsoft. Bloomberg have reported that Nokia are close to announcing a software partnership with Microsoft as they try to mount a challenge against Apple and Google.

Nokia chief executive Stephen Elop has held talks with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to place the latest Microsoft operating system onto Nokia phones. Elop has however been rumoured to have been speaking to Google CEO Eric Schmidt about using Googles Android OS on the phones, but sources behind the scenes say that this is likely to never happen.

  1. I think Nokia just shoot its foot with this move, I saw this move coming a long time ago when Elop was appointed as Nokia’s CEO. Once you work for Microsoft, you will be thinking Microsoft is the way to go. Funny thing, no?

Nokia will pay $15 for each phone they sell with WP7, probably for consumers will be $30 increase price. I don’t want to multiply for the number of phone but I am sure it will be a gross amount.

I understand that it is a bit late for Nokia to go in the Android Wagon because their rivals have a long way working on it, but with MeeGo they had a nice cheap alternative which was also supported for Intel.
