Only yesterday KitGuru was reporting that Lenovo were releasing new machines with battery life of up to 30 hours. Today HP announced their new range of laptops, including the EliteBook 8460p with up to 32 hours of battery life.
This new range is targeting the professional market place, with tough industrial looking designs and good performance internals. HP are saying that their new range of laptops outperform even Lenovo's upcoming range in regards to battery life.
“HP is the market leader in business notebooks and we have raised the bar with a completely revamped line of business-grade notebooks,” said HP’s VP for business notebooks.
The HP Elitebook 8460p will have a 14 inch screen and will be available with a range of Intel's new Sandybridge second generation Core processors. They will be offering the machine with Core i3, Core i5 and even Core i7 processors, so clearly cooling is capable. They are also releasing a HP EliteBook 8560p model which will have a 15.6 inch screen.
These systems are formed around new HP standards, the ‘Forge' Design with aluminum alloy hinges and cast titanium alloy latches for durability. In a similar fashion to MSI, HP are claiming ‘military standards'. They are also offering AMD Radeon HD 6470M discrete graphics for those who need a little more power. Large mechanical and fast SSD drives are an option if you have deeper pockets. USB 3.0, BluRay drives and all the other tasty extras will be offered, and they even support up to 16GB of ram.
The main talking point however is the amazing battery life that HP are claiming. The systems will be available with 3 cell, 6 cell and 9 cell batteries with HP's Extended Life Notebook Battery and HP Ultra Capacity Notebook Battery offering 32 hours of life on a single charge. Wozzers. These will be available mid march with prices starting around $1000. We have no idea when they will reach the UK, but expect to pay more, as usual.
KitGuru says: 32 hours battery life? Who ever would have thought that was possible a few years ago.
32 hours? with the screen on lowest brightness and typing into word? All of these ratings look great on paper, but they aren’t realistic.
Well, could be 16 hours and with that performance…It would still be great 🙂
But I hope to see 24 hours just for the sake of it!
Carlos is right Frank. Even if its now 32 Hours, what can it default to? 8 hours at the very, very least?
It will be interesting to see how these perform in the wild. I tell you now thought that if they do perform and hold their battery like that then… My god.
