Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft's latest browser was launched on Monday evening and has received 2.3 million downloads in the first 24 hours.
Microsoft are very happy with the interest in their new browser, particularly due to the high profile hardware acceleration features which includes offloading to the GPU. Early tests by various publications show it to be one of the fastest browsers on the market.
While 2.3 million downloads is a big number, Firefox 3 actually received over 8 million downloads in the first 24 hours of release, back in 2008. Google's Chrome has an auto update function which means those downloads aren't logged in the same way.
Still, its an nice relief for Microsoft who have been in the press recently for negative things, such as the failures of their Zune media player and the botched Windows 7 phone update which bricked a high percentage of Samsung phones.
KitGuru says: 2.3 million downloads, have you tried it yet?
Using it as my main browser.
Using it now and the performance is very good and so far i havnet come across a problem that would make me use Chrome or Firefox instead.
Sooo.. so far so good.
