Adobe have released version 10.2 of Flash Player for the Android operating system. This brings marked improvements to those people using compatible hardware.
The latest release which is compatible with Android 2.2 ‘Froyo', Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread' and Android 3.0.1 ‘Honeycomb' offers better integration with the browsers and offers improved security tweaks.
The biggest change won't be that obvious to many people. Flash content is now treated as part of the page, rather than a simple overlay, meaning that scrolling performance is massively improved. This isn't compatible with older Android releases, meaning those people will be left with substandard scrolling.
As well as the performance improvements, there is a security patch included for the major cross platform zero day vulnerability that left system running Flash Player on mobiles, laptops and desktop systems open to attack.
Apple still aren't entertaining Flash software on any of their devices, but if Android is proving that the interface can be streamlined, speed bumped and enhanced with upcoming releases, perhaps they will reevaluate the platform as a whole.
