According to online rumours, Crysis 2 will be getting a Direct X 11 patch sometime today on the PC. This patch will unlock an advanced graphics menu in the game. This will be a relief to many gamers who are complaining that the PC version of the game is a shoddy console port.
To be fair, we think what they have achieved in DX9 is rather incredible, but gamers don't buy GTX590's or HD 6990's to not play the latest games with tessellation and full Direct X 11 support.
Will this update transform the game into a worthwhile benchmarking tool? Keep your eyes posted today for the patch, which could be a rather large download depending on what exactly Crytek change.
KitGuru says: Have you played Crysis 2 yet?
the game is actually really good, but it certainly isn’t a wonderful test for a graphics card.
I agree, partly with Naddy’s statement.
I think when used with the Crysis2AdvancedGraphicsOptions program released by a gamestop guy, which enables you to tweak the graphics settings, not available in the games menu, it’s does indeed look stunning for the most part.
The multi-platform nature of C2 meant that Crytek decided to ensure, rightly, or wrongly, that the graphics were consistent across all three systems.
Remember the PC version is cheaper than either console version, so if it doesn’t look appreciably better on PC, a lot of my mates have brought the console version because the multi-player is better on consoles.
EA now owns Crytek so the EA Mandates of:
low quality
Price gauging consumers
releasing before ready
Are in full effect. some of the textures are ridiculously low-res too!
That being said it’s not a great FPS, in the mode of COD, BBC2, etc, however it holds it’s own as a great tactical-FPS!
A run & gun shooter this is not!
🙂
It will only be an eye candy DX11 patch..not a game rewrite
Unfortunately this was just a rumour and the whole story turned into yet another occasion of Crytek shafting their customers and failing to give any real information on when or what anything might be happening.
The post from the Crytek staffer confirming this is at the bottom of this page:

It’s a crying shame because the game is quite good and the multiplayer has a lot of potential… if you can get to play it that is.
Of course Crytek are handling this with their usual train wreck approach to communications with the public and causing nothing but more and more frustration.
